Ariol season 2 is a 2d animated TV show for kids adapted from the famous french comics Ariol. I worked in Folimage Studios as an Assistant Producer/Director during a 4-month internship. The season 2 has 52 episodes of 12 minutes.

I worked with a large team of 60 people from different sectors and with different skills, such as 2D animators, producers, directors or 2D artists.

As an assistant producer, I worked mainly on the "producing" side of the project but I also worked closely with the directors.

THE PRODUCING SIDE

Producing

Producing such a huge project was a real challenge. For a first professional work, I've learnt a lot about team managing and communication. Thanks to that, I always try to anticipate production problems, see what can cost a lot on a production and communicate everything needed with my colleagues. It helped me a lot for my game projects.

As a producer assistant, I did things such as :

  •  managing the recruitment of many artists (replying to the applications, answering their questions, sending them the tests and doing the follow-up)

  •   preparing documents for the recording sessions for the voice actors

  •  designing a sheet for the follow-up of the voicelines recorded according to the script modifications and doing the follow-up

  • communicating the needs of the project with our partners (like the recording studio or the lip sync. compagny)

I've also seen a lot of sheets about budgets and did so many reunion reports !

THE DIRECTING SIDE

Directing

As said before, I had the chance to work with the directors of the projects. I did many tasks with them and I adapted some of their workflow for my own projects like Code S-44 ,  Show me the Way or Detective Jackie

When I joined the directors, the projects was still in pre-production so I had the opportunity to :

  •  check a lot of scripts and give some advice of directing. (the writing process of the episode was long and the scripts had to be written like 4 times because of incoherence or dialogues not sounding right when they're spoken.)

  • doing breakdown lists of these scripts in order to know what has to be created. It was my first introduction to WBS style workflow !

  •  see how storyboards or animatics are made. It helped me understand the whole pipeline of production of cinematics.
